BMW Z8: classic of the day
Dream roadster of the last millennium: the BMW Z8. The 400 hp bullet combines timeless design with top performance. Our classic of the day!
Z8 with central speedometer
The then BMW chief designer Chris Bangle and Henry Fisker (also designed the Aston Martin DB9) drew the Z8. With its side air intakes and the flat, wide kidney, the Z8 pays homage to the unforgotten 1956 BMW 507. Tail lights and turn signals in LED technology, however, were far ahead of its time. The 400 hp engine is borrowed from the BMW M5, the brakes are from the 750i. By using a lot of aluminum, the car should be easy, but at the end with 1.5 tons, but quite heavy. One reason was the abundance of accessories – the Z8 could only be ordered in full equipment. Nevertheless, the car accelerates in 4.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h. The interior is designed very puristically. In the middle of the dashboard four round instruments are attached and the filigree steering wheel with fine metal struts reminiscent of roadster of the 50s.
A classic career is the Z8 in the cradle
The then price of 235,000 Mark made sure that many copies disappeared into collections – BMW needed for the production of the handmade Z8 about ten times longer than for the production of a 3 Series. The film debuted in 1999 in the hands of Pierce Brosnan aka James Bond in “The World Is Not Enough”. However, his appearance did not last long, a helicopter with a saw divides it into two parts and blew the heart of many BMW fans. Although his classic career only starts, a well-kept Z8 already costs around 200,000 euros today and will probably continue to grow in value over the next few years. The prices for the rare BMW V8 Alpina (555 units) start at around 300,000 euros. For BMW gives for the Z8 a 50-year spare part warranty for spare parts. By 2053, Z8 owners should therefore drive carefree. You are looking for a BMW Roadster: Here are offers.
